Apps 11.5.8 and 9i

Has anyone upgraded Oracle Applications 11.5.8 from database version 8.1.7 to 9i? Was it good, bad, indifferent in regards to performance?

I'd like to because of some of the database enhancements, but the CIO asked the "performance" question.
