What's everyone's take on this? -- I've been working as a DBA for about 7 years now. Today I was on an interview and they gave me an OCP-like multiple choice test -- I scored 85% on it without preparing, and finished the test in half the normal time, but the interviewer indicated I would probably be disqualified without certification.

I told her I thought certification was no substitute for years of real-world experience, and that any company that thinks it is doesn't know Oracle.

So I get another call this afternoon -- "are you certified?" -- "uhm ... no, but ..."

Why do so many companies put so much value on certification? What ever happened to the technical interview?
