Hiring a good DBA is probably pretty difficult. Basically, if you don't have a good DBA already how do you know what kind of questions to ask during a technical interview? Sure, you use google and come up with some questions but the interviewer might not understand these questions, much less the (correct) answers.

If they know a candidate is certified they at least have some kind proof that he or she knows something about Oracle...

Maybe you should try to explain why you don't think certification is particularly important and point to some of your postings here at cbos that has helped other people.
