Default directory for backup

In what directory will the backup files be created when I do a backup without any additional configuring? I mean this example:

[oracle@localhost oracle]$ rman
RMAN> connect <sys/password@databaseTNSName>;
RMAN> backup database;
RMAN> exit;

The answer is $OH/dbs. It is very easy to test for yourself. Here is an example:

$ rman target /
Recovery Manager: Release 10.2.0.1.0
...
RMAN> backup datafile 1;
Starting backup at 10-NOV-08
...
channel ORA_DISK_1: finished piece 1 at 10-NOV-08
piece handle=/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/6sjvc20h_1_1
