Group function

A group function is an Oracle SQL function that returns a single result based on many rows, as opposed to single-row functions. These functions are: AVG, COUNT, MIN, MAX, STDDEV, SUM, VARIANCE, etc.

SELECT dept, MAX(sal) FROM emp GROUP BY dept;
SELECT MIN(sal), MAX(sal), AVG(sal) FROM emp;
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM emp;
