Archiving

The term archiving can refer to either:
- Process of copying on-line redo log files to the archive destination. This is done by the ARCH process if the database is in ARCHIVELOG mode. Archiving should be turned on if you want to do on-line database backups.
- Archiving data - extracting and deleting old data from a database.
