Re: advantages of unix for Oracle

I would have to say any *nix platform is good and stable. Hardware wise, you really do get what you pay for. You can put linux on anything, but if you put it on cheap hardware you get what you pay for.

The real answer is what does your shop support? They should standardize so they deal with very few os varients.
I have been a DBA for HP-UX, windows, AIX, solaris, and linux. From a DB standpoint it is the same. You just need to be aware of hardware limitations in respect to performance expectations. IO bandwidth, redundancy, bus bandwitdth, etc.
