The Oracle installer is a GUI installer therefore needs to know where to send it's display to on Unix (this applies to all X clients in the X Window System). Depends where you installing it from. If you are doing it in front of the console(and it runs X Server) you can set DISPLAY=localhost:0.0. If you are doing it from a remote machine (whether is a PC or Unix terminal) that has X Server running. Just replace localhost with that machine's IP. i.e. DISPLAY=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:0.0

When trying to install oracle 8.1.6 on compaq server, gives message DISPLAY not set???. What values should be set here to start the installation. Any other special things apart from default installations to be taken care of.
