With 8i, Oracle installations (on Unix) require an X-Windows server to be
running, whether on the server you're installing on, or on a separate
workstation.
The DISPLAY environment variable indicates where X-Windows programs should be displayed. For a local display it should be :0.0, while a remote display would be remotebox:0.0 (where remotebox is the name of the workstation running X-Windows).
