creating an ADO connection to Oracle 8i at runtime

Is it possible, using the OLEDB provider for 8.1.7, to create an ADO connection at runtime without a pre-existing tnsnames.ora entry for the net service? I know this can be done with some ODBC drivers but I'm not as familiar with OLEDB.
