Given the constraints and the size, I would rather take incrementally updated backups at the source and copy them to the remote site. That should allow for much more flexibility and be more error prone - at least in my mind.
If you want to pursue that route, check Oracle's Backup and Recovery Basics manual page 4-20 onwards.
