Well this response pretty much answers every unanswered question and supposition.

  1. You are inadequately trained ... RMAN takes ... lets see is it one mouse click or two to implement? You think MS SQL is easier than two mouse clicks?
  2. You have quite likely misdiagnosed the problem.
  3. You are looking for someone to be angry with ... how about Oracle? Or Dan Morgan? Or the Easter Bunny?

Get a competent Oracle DBA in there to help you out of the mess and to train you on how to use RMAN through OEM, DBConsole, or the Grid Control.
