Standby does not necessarily equal Dataguard. So, metalink draft Note:305360.1 states:
"In Standard Edition, it is possible to simulate a physical standby
database environment.
You can manually transfer the archived logs to Standby server. (This
can be scripted
for automation). Once the archived redo logs are available on Standby,
they can be applied
using standard recover command."
In other words, sometimes the olden ways are the golden ways.
