Strange behavior on enabling autotrace..

Hi ,

I have plus trace role enabled and also plan table created on the schema of the user..now from the server when I login as the user, from the server itself, I do not get the error, but when I login as the same user, not from the server , but using oracle client and connect as username/password_at_connect string then I get following error:

SP2-0618: Cannot find the Session Identifier. Check PLUSTRACE role is enabled
SP2-0611: Error enabling STATISTICS report

What could be the cause?
