thank you for taking the time to post your reply. you are absolutely correct of course in assuming i come from an MS SQLServer background, i do; and have all those expectations engenerated by Microsoft :).

i will grab a copy of Oracle Essentials as you recommend. contrary to what Sybrand says, i do read the manuals, but my problem lies in not understanding them at times; i do not have a big picture idea as yet of how the whole system's attendent files hold the whole lot together.

re the repository: the problems here began when i tried to view two different nodes thru the one OEM GUI interface. the second node would not connect because of conflicts between to identically named OEMREPs.

so i dumped the development OEMREP and created a new one with a different name. yet after reading some more, i may have been able to just rename the SID of the original development OEMREP (????).

but we live and we learn :-)

if you have any other recommended sites or reference books, please advise.
