patch eror

hi all

i was installing a critical patch update 4392446 on oracle 817 ,HP UX(64 bit)..
It worked fine while installing on other 817 and 9i databases.. But while installing on oracle 817 ,HP UX(64 bit)..

It gives java not found error and

the patch directory must be a number

Opatch failed because of problems in patch area...

same patch worked fine with other databases ... any help
