I had trouble with Host Credentials on a Windows system (XP Pro) continually giving me an incorrect password message. I resolved the issue by performing the following:

• Click Start
• Click Control Panel
• Double Click Administrative Tools
• Double Click Local Security Policy
• Expand the Local Policies folder
• Select the User Rights Assignment folder
• Right Click and select Properties on the 'Log on as a batch job' policy
• Ensure that your login is in there; or your group (i.e. add the administrators) group

You may need to log out and back in after this; I don't recall if I did or not. I am not sure if this is the same issue that you are experiencing, but hopefully if it is this will be of some assistance.
