Hi,
Heres the document details:

"Introduction: A Quantitative Comparison between Raw Devices and File
Systems for implementing Oracle Databases Oracle/HP White Paper... (published 05/07/2004)"

and here is the relevant section of the document:

"5.1.1 Asynchronous IO

On HP-UX, asynchronous IO is only supported with a raw device (raw disk partition or raw logical volume), although this will change with HP-UX 11i v3 (internally known as 11.31)."

Have taken this to mean you'll be able to use cooked files for asynchronous i/o from 11iv3 forward.
