Previous respondent had a pretty good answer you can download the software and the documentation from oracle for free and yes 9i is more current than 8i and 8i is getting pretty aged. If for some reason you are particularly driven to 8i and want a basic book to help you start thinking/understanding what you are doing you might look at this.

Oracle8I for Windows Nt Starter Kit (Oracle Press S.) by Steve Bobrowski

I have not read or used that book (disclaimer) just found it on amazon with pretty mixed reviews (some good some bad). Probably can pick this up somewhere for a few dollars + shipping guess its pretty old and most oracle professionals probably might not want to look at it but for some people it might be a starting point.
