Yeah it is a little confusing. If you really want to run with the 9.2.0.5 patchset then you have to install the 10g NEW installer into the OH (ORACLE_HOME) of the 9i software ... not a new OUI Home.

The installer prompts you and defaults to trying to create a new OUI home but that is not what you want to/need to do. Now asking why it behaves like that ... well thats a different question.

Anyhow force the 10g installer (which is required for the 9.2.0.5 patchset WHY?) to go into to the existing 9i software home. SELECT THE OLD HOME from SELECT LIST and CLICK ON IT AGAIN. The path name below should then show correct path for existing 9i OH.

After that install completes then install the patchset (carefully).

Check out carefully the Known Issues on 9.2.0.5 there are several gotchas.

On a RAC environment the (newly installed) installer won't correct present the list of nodes to install the software on YET the (same version) of the installer that accompanies the patchset will see those nodes.

Before you do anything, get a backup of your inventory and oracle home directories/etc in case of ... issues.

Hope this helps! Received on Thu Jun 10 2004 - 13:48:55 CDT
