Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Anyone recommend a good Unix Scripting book?
Morning John,
>> I looked around and grant you that I was wrong. Howard does provide
>> good info when he is not bashing a Burleson book
to be fair, the OP did ask for commments on Don's book after seeing rave
'unreviews' on Amazon.
>> Every DBA I have talk to using UNIX has had nothing but
>> good comments about The Oracle9i UNIX Admin Handbook.
I am a dba and I use Unix. I have not read the book so I will not
comment on it.
>> Howard is riding the high horse, the black knight
>> saving inexperienced DBAs from the evil Burleson.
I wouldn't go so far as 'evil' but bear in mind that when Don's 'errors'
or 'omissions' were pointed out, he vanished from the discussion and
resorted to threats of legal action. It is clear that both Howard and
DOn could have continued the discussions on the NG and have others join
in. It's not a witch hunt. I've posted wrong info here before and
thankfully I was corrected - this means I've learned, the OP requesting
help has probably been saved from doing something stupid based on my
advice, and hopefully, has loearned from my mistake ! Threatening legal
action (to someone in a totally different continent as well) does sound
to me to be a bit silly, we could all have learned something from a
proper discussion.
>> I guess in a way I am like Howard. I don't like self proclaimed
>> saviors claiming to protect the "little" people.
You mean like the 'Geoge & Tony' show :o)
Cheers,
Norm.
PS. Note how we have not resorted to threats and abuse here - civilised debate, that's how it should be.
