What does an OracleDBA know about AIX vs. Solaris on that level? For one thing, I've NEVER heard of recompiling the kernel or any foolishness like that for non-Linux Oracle installations. Most of the params you would need to change on the system level reside in /etc/system, as illustrated in the installation manual.

IBM is moving toward Linux, and the future of AIX is shady at best. Oracle currently develops for Sun as it's primary platform, so I would personally stick with Solaris and get your OracleDBA with AIX-centric knowledge some Solaris training. Sounds like thats the real issue.
