Hi Howard,
Not sure on your technical terminology here.
By "poo", are you referring to the soft, hot, steaming variety, common with stuffed up recoveries.
Or by "poo", are you referring to the hard, rocky, stinky variety, common with the inability to perform tricky recoveries.
Oracle documentation, particularly the Concepts and Backup and Recovery manuals discusses the difference in much detail and is recommended reading (particularly for the constipated ;)
