I'm using these steps because they are what I have found in messages saying
they fix the JRE problem. In all my reading, I haven't found a single
message that has said these steps are only for P4. Additionally, most of
the complaints I have seen aren't even listing P4 as the processor on the
system in question. Lots of messages are on systems with other than P4
chips, like PIII, II and even AMD. It also doesn't seem to matter on the
OS. I see people complaining about this with both Windows and Linux. There
are a lot of messages like this on Oracle's installation forum.
It just seems crazy that the installer on what is considered a professional enterprise database would be so buggy. I can't even find instructions for a manual install. I even did a brand new Windows 2000 installation and Oracle still wouldn't install. :-(
