compatible stetting on migrated 8i

Hello out there,

I have an Oracle 8i (8.1.5) database which was migrated from 7.3.3. During the migration the compatible setting in init.ora was set to 8.0.5.0.0 but now I need some features (i.e. drop column) from 8i. Is it safe to set compatible to 8.1.0 or is there a good reason why the migraton set it to 8.0.5?

Any ideas?
