Have you all recommended packages and patches installed?
Two days ago I've installed Oracle8i (8.1.5) on a Ultra 10 with 384 Meg
of RAM and 500 Meg of swap space. On this machine I've installed
Solaris 7.0 (Entire Distribution) and all recommended patches (see
SunSolve CD
4.0.9 or http://sunsolve.sun.com) I think it should also work with you
sparc.
Run the following commands to check your environment: uname -a => to determin your current operating system showrev -p => to determin witch operating system patches are installed pkginfo -i [packagename] => to determin witch operating system packages are installed
Oracle recommends:
- at least kernel jumbo patch revision #1058181-06
- Operating system packages SUNWarc, SUNWbtool, SUNWlibm, SUNWlibms,
SUNWsprot, SUNWtoo, SUNWhea
Don't forget to set the Unix Environment Setup tasks to perform as the root user:
- configure the unix kernel for Oracle8i - create mount points (if you wish) - create a dba group - create a oracle account
Setup tasks to perform as the oracle user:
- set permissions for file creation
- set environment variables (ORACLE_HOME, NLS_LANG,...)
if you want furher information send me a message.
