Steve,
Take a hop over to The Primary Key at www.This.Is/Keybooks and see what
books and other educational resources are available out there. I would
suggest several of the Osborne (Oracle Press) books...."Oracle: The
Complete Reference" by Koch and Loney is a must for anyone who uses
Oracle in any way! Also, the "Oracle DBA Handbook", "Oracle Tuning" and
"Advanced Tuning and Administration". On the O'Reilly side there is
"Oracle Performance Tuning 2/e" by Corrigan & Gurry. Also, "TCP/Ip" and
"Essential System Administration". Rita Palanov has done a video
entitled "Oracle Internals for Everyone" which give a great overview of
how and why Oracle behaves the way it does. The list goes on and on!
Most people would agree that you need at least a few good books to
augment the documentation.
Have fun and remember that there is a lot of great help out there...Don't be afraid to ask!
