Also, you can use OEM performance monitor to see what it is waiting on, assuming you are appropriately licensed.
That blocksize stuff may or may not be a myth, their purpose is not for tuning. Tune your application first. Then you might consider keep or recycle pools. How big is your table and how big is your SGA and how much memory are you using and what platform are you on and are your updates causing chaining and are your users fighting over the same blocks? (note that if that last is true, making the blocksize bigger might hurt you by making more users fight)
Have you looked at the usage of your undo? How about redo? Have you looked for warning errors in the alert log? What sort of pctfree/pctused settings are you using?

-- @home.com is bogus. "There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husband's necks. Anything can happen." - Raymond Chandler in "The Red Wind."Received on Fri Nov 18 2005 - 18:14:31 CST
