I guess you are having some specific problems with your Sybase system that are unresolvable in that platform? Because it sounds like your question is putting the cart before the horse. Why would you be planning to move to Oracle without knowing what the technical benefits are?

Sybase is a good database. As I have grown more familiar with Oracle I now think Oracle is superior, but Sybase is very good also. Moving a "large" database can be a very expensive undertaking, not even counting the cost of the software. It's a big, big deal. Don't undertake it lightly.
