PreCompiler ProC Timeout

Our applications use Oracle Pro-C. If an application is connected and logged into Oracle, and the server or Oracle service goes down and the application makes a call, it just hangs.

Is there some way of specifying in the connection or sql a request to timeout if a request takes too long to reply so the application can terminate gracefully?

I was thinking of a separate thread that would start checking everytime a request gets made and further, would terminate the application if it took too long to respond to an Oracle request, but I was looking to see if there was any other way of doing this.

Does anyone have any pointers on where I could look to solve this problem?

Thanks

Jeff Kish
