I concur! I used DBVISIT to create a standby for a standard edition Oracle
11.2 database and it worked admirably. DBVISIT used to be a Perl script. I
wouldn't be very surprised if DBVISIT was downgraded and rewritten in
Python. Python, for those who do not know, uses indentation to delimit
blocks of code, just like COBOL. Again, for the juniors among us: COBOL was
a programming language developed by the late read admiral Grace Hopper. The
word COBOL is an abbreviation for "Completely Obsolete Badly Overused
Language". COBOL was obsolete from the very inception and was lacking
features like global variables. It was also extremely verbose. It was easy
to confuse a large COBOL program with a writing of James Joyce or Virginia
Woolf. Scripting version of COBOL is called "Python" and is, for some
unfathomable reason, very popular indeed. Some biologists have noticed that
the size of the human brain is shrinking, which might explain the exploding
popularity of Python.
My opinion of Python aside, Mark's suggestion of DbVisit is an excellent
one and should be explored.
