Hi Scott,

The recovery catalog version should to be at least at the same version as the highest version of your target db.

Eg, if the highest version of all your target db is 21c, your catalog should also be 21c. The 21c catalog can backup all dbs from 11g to 21c. I’m not sure about target versions below 11g. You should be able to look up an oracle support note for the target vs catog matrix.
