We have CommVault running Database Backups for Oracle on Windows.
In order to restore a backup to another server, where we want to rename the database (SID and DB_NAME) (eg from PROD to UAT), can CommVault handle it ?Do I need to manually create the parameter file and service on the destination server ?Does CommVault use the destination ORACLE_SID (i.e. can we provide a different SID from that on the Source) ?Can it restore to an alternate Drive (and/or split datafiles among multiple drives) on the destination server ?
I do know have access to CommVault administration, scripts and logs but I understand that it invokes RMAN to backup datafiles, controlfile and ArchiveLogs.

Hi Hemant,
I guess I am expected to answer this one. I don't work for CommVault Systems for more than 3 years. CommVault and me have parted ways in April 2019. However, after having been a senior PS engineer, I can tell you several things:
- CommVault uses rman under the hood. What rman can do,
CommVault can do as well.
- The connection is established through a library, just like NetBackup
- You need to install Oracle software on the target machine and start the auxiliary instance in nomount mode.
- You can change ORACLE_SID automatically.
- If you want to rename database, I would use "duplicate database" method. The rman tool can duplicate to a database with a different name.
- CommVault has freely accessible and searchable documentation

Regards
PS:
I still like CommVault backup. It's an excellent product.
