Hi Colleagues,
Another Oracle Mystery!
Repeatedly Out of about 20 identical runs of rman we get the below error.  We are using basic because we aren't licenced for anything else. and we are using release 19.12 any ideas?

ORA-19962: compression algorithm BASIC is not valid with release 0.0.0.0.1

Best Wishes

Wow! Release 0.0.0.0.1 was long before my time. I started with Oracle 4.14 on MS-DOS 3.3 but haven't fully mastered it until 5.0 on VAX/VMS. In other words, I am a novice with Oracle. However, why are you setting compression algorithm in RMAN settings? You don't need to do that. Backup as compressed backupset will work without compression being set in RMAN. Also, you can use commercial backup utilities like NetBackup, Avamar, DD Boost or Rubrik which have both compression and deduplication.  Your space savings will be better than with compression only. Backup is too serious of a thing to be left to rman.
