I don‘t know whether it‘s an Oracle or an OS bug. I‘ll examine the aforementioned function in more detail after I have the access to my Oracle installation again. There aren‘t any registered Oracle bugs with this function involved.

I suggested relinking because the program tries to branch to a non-existing location. It‘s a low risk, low cost action that could potentially resolve the problem.

Are there any spfile differences between working and non-functioning host?

Hi Mladen,

There were no recent changes to the kernel and that we have confirmed. The last kernel change happened in 2019.

Thanks,

No, Nenad is correct, that's not a problem with VM. Generally speaking, there aren't many problems with VM these days. Have you recently installed the new Linux kernel? If you have, you should have relinked the Oracle executables. Once upon a time, that was hard. One had to go to $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib and run "make -f ins_rdbms.mk<http://ins_rdbms.mk>". Today, the command is "relink all". No more "make" commands or debugging the link process. However, you still have to shut the instance down before relinking the executables.

Hi Nenad,

I did set “_disable_hihghres_ticks” to true last week as I saw that as a workaround in one the blog but post that also instance was terminated. I will once again try in one of the non prod box and update you. Could this be an issue with VM as post moving couple of VMs to a new host I don’t see the problem again. Or do you suspect this to be an Oracle bug?

Thanks again Nenad, you have been so helpful!
