if the archives are in /u01/app/oracle/oradat/reco, then the command to discover them is: catalog start with ' /u01/app/oracle/oradat/reco'; This is an interactive command. It will prompt you to verify that you want to catalog them. After doing this, it would probably be a good idea to familiarize yourself with rman concepts.
