Problem is that I don't know of such utility. Both tar and cpio are single threaded. I have now installed GNU parallel  and will probably do better the next time around. Believe it or not, tar zcvf is approximately as fast as unplug into .pdb.

Yeah, you're right. Enhancement request is the right thing to do.  I was sort of annoyed after wasting 9 hours of my Saturday. And there are lots of improvements that are needed with multi-tenant.
