Rich, few years ago, I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you. However, these days, Java is just the standard language of the business. Guess what is used by SAP Hana Studio? Yes, it's Java. Guess what does IBM DB2 Data Studio use? Again, it is Java. Commvault Systems, the company I work for, also uses Java for its GUI. Oracle database assistants (DBCA,DBUA, Netmgr) are all written in Java. So are SQL*Developer and Eclipse. Basically, Java can no longer be avoided. Businesses all across the globe have adopted Java, without consulting me about that. I surrendered and allowed myself to be conquered. Jihad against Java is no longer a viable option, despite my love for Perl and PHP.
