Agreed. We do have several resources out there for getting help/sorted out.
Here’s one example, forgive the self-promotion.
But, in deference to simplicity, we created a wizard/GUI for doing an install on your local machine, complete with help screens/docs.

Thanks. Unlike most Oracle staff I only have an IQ of about 134, and that was when I was younger. The KISS principle applies to marketing, the more complex things are, the smaller your target audience becomes. ;-)

Um, no.
Many, many people use ORDS with APEX. Maybe even a majority.
If that doesn’t apply to you, ignore the APEX bit and APEX specific settings in your ORDS install procedure.
So to keep it simple, instead of having two install guides, one sans-apex and one w/-apex, you get what you see.
I’ll take another look and see if there’s not something we can do for the next version of ORDS so this is more obvious.

reading through the Instalilng Oracle REST Data Services manual... why do the authors continuously assume people want to use APEX?!
e.g. page 1-8 and 1-9, installation example.
Starts as an Oracle REST installation, but morphs into "Yeah! Let's install dependencies for APEX!" Which is useless to someone who wants to install REST services.
It's obvious that in Oracle staff's mind, Oracle REST == APEX. As if they assume that almost everyone who installed REST is using it for APEX.
Some of us just want to have the same functionality that the mod_plsql Apache module provided with zero interest in extra bells and whistles.
