Sorry, has to be Sun boxes for this customer :-)  

That is a must but from performance perspective, you think Intel config will beat 1290. Any one else has any numbers, even for say older 1280?

Well, I'd go with Intel every single day and twice on Sunday - but I wouldn't buy it from Sun. Get the same config from Dell for a lot less money. Quick website spec shows:  

Sun 4450 with slower procs but same RAM: 27k on the website

Dell R905 with 4 x quad-core 2.7GHz opterons, same ram: 15k off the website.  

Almost half.
