Brian,
Did you ever figure this out.
I to am considering and otpion archvie log dest and I'm all to familier
with what happens when RMAN can ot find log when using only one arch
dest.
It wiould be cool if RMAN could try both dest *if* it found a missing log on the primary dest.
Basicly I looking for exepcing with RMAN and a multi dest arch config...the behavior.

Subject: Rman with optional archive logs
Call all Rman Gurus, :)
Has anybody worked with "optional" archivelog mount point and RMAN arc removal process?
When RMAN goes to remove old arclogs... it will choke if it cannot find the arclogs to delete.
I have here another script removing the "optional" arclogs..which RMAN does not know about...
My question is: will Rman know not to fail if the archivelog which are designated as optional are missing...?
Normally it would...error like this if it cannot find the archlog if it was manditory.
MAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS =============== RMAN-00571: ===========================================================RMAN-03002: failure of backup command at 08/22/2005 11:32:51 RMAN-06059: expected archived log not found, lost of archived log compromises recoverability
