Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> sar has the correct information or the vmstat?
Hi unix gurus
which tool for checking the cpu utilization is
reliable,
is sar better or vmstat better on an hp box
Please let me know
I am working on an HP itanium server out here and i am
seeing that both these tools show lots of difference
i understand that sar gives out the io stats along
with the idle stats.
I am seeing here that idle time based on vmstat shows
it is 80 to 90% where as the sar shows the idle time
is 50 to 60%
But the top and the glance shows similar to what the
vmstat shows.
Hence i am not sure which is correct.
A small output is being show here
Sar 2 5000
15:58:18 %usr %sys %wio %idle 15:58:30 19 4 32 44 15:58:32 14 4 22 61 15:58:34 13 3 18 66 15:58:36 14 4 26 56 15:58:38 21 5 33 42
Vmstat 2
us sy id
12 4 84
13 2 85
18 4 78
16 4 81
13 3 84
13 3 84
20 5 74
13 6 81
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Arun
