mview docs

I have seen statements like the following on metalink wrt mview master table reorgs:

"With a read-only MV/snapshot you will have to recreate the MV to get the new column added."

and

Note:1029823.6
Subject: ALTERING A MASTER TABLE OF A READ-ONLY/UPDATABLE SNAPSHOT

They never seem to refer to underlying docs, however. Where is this discussed in the docs? Thanks.
