I believe that the state of the onion is such that clustered file systems like VxFS and OCFS still do not provide the same performance as raw devices. I have had my share of troubles trying to breathe life into Linux cluster with OCFS, and performance was not in the least bit exhilarating. I had to re-install my Linux box 3 times. I haven't seen VxFS in action, but from this group I gather that there are significant constraints on that. Wherever I've been, RAC or OPS was done with raw devices. Did anyone on this list actually measure the performance of VxFS and raw devices? My impression is still that cluster file systems are very much like GMO food: it looks appealing on the surface but can be detrimental to your health.
