I hit that problem on a database I inherited. It took some creative =
manovering of the tables to free up a needed datafile.=20
I believe you have to rebuilt the controlfile to change the max_datafile =
parameter.
Now all the servers I built have 1500 + datafiles even if it is a small =
instance.

Thanx for reminding about MAXDATAFILES Sonja.
we already have 400 (with a max of 512) in oracle 11i environment.
Need to think about it.
