We have AIX 5.2 and Oracle 9.2.0.4 and use datafiles which are bigger = then 2G.
It started when we hit maxdatafile number (200), and since it's = production 7x24 it's not easy to get permission to bounce the database.=20 So far, we keep them on 2,5GB

Sonja

Not related to AIX5, but I was building a learning 10g database on RedHat AS 2.1u3 and accepted the defaults for the UNDO retention time. I started loading 2 years worth of date sensitive data into a partitioned table and the UNDOTBS grew to 6 gig and filled the disk.=20 Normally there was a 2 gig limit on the datafile sizes and this supprised me when the disk filled. Perhaps Oracle has matured more than we thought.

Oracle files had 2 gig limits prior to 9i (it could have been 8i but I skipped this release) but these been lifted. There used to be a 2 gig limit
on .dmp files in oracle but this is gone. I just tested it exp and I have
been using rman backpieces much bigger than 2 gig since we started on 9i.

Subject: Max datafile size in AIX5.2L

Hi All,
The env. is oracle 9.2.0.4 & AIX 5.2L (64 bit)

What is the safe limit for maximum datafile size ? I see lot of articles about 2GB limitation.

Any advise would be greatly helpful.

Thanks.
Prem.
