Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Re: strange behavior in 9.2.0.4 - no blocks in keep buffer pool for table
Paul,
I've just read the item, and there is an error in the oci_block_header view ,
the line:
where b.obj = o.obj#
should read
where b.obj = o.dataobj#
This may fix your problem.
I'll edit the item later on tonight.
Regards
Jonathan Lewis

: unexpected behavior in 9.2.
: blocks are not appearing for a table in v$bh.
: at all.
: not via a table scan, not via index access.
:
: I don't see any of this table's blocks in v$bh in
: production, either.
:
:
: testing environment
: 9.2.0.4 on w2k adv svr sp4 /3GB
: 4 GB physical memory
: sga max size set to 2.5 GB
:
: db_block_size=8KB
: db_cache_size=1.5 GB
: db_keep_size=.5 GB
:
: test heap table has 46246 blocks (363 MB).
:
: alter table <table_name> storage (buffer pool keep);
: alter table <table_name> cache;
:
: bounced database instance.
:
: select distinct <column_name> from <table_name>
: where pk_id in ( ... list of 10 values ... );
:
: verified that table access is via index.
:
: still no blocks appear in v$bh, x$bh or the views that

:
: has anyone seen this, did I miss something?
: I'll admit that since we went from 7.3.4 to 8.1.6, I
: stopped using the keep pool and marking tables as
: "CACHE". There is one table that is getting hammered,
: that I would very much like to cache.
:
: thanks in advance.
