I am not sure if dataguard works with 8.1.6. However, I used it successfully
with 8.1.7.4.
It is very different from the 9i version, a little harder to configure, not
as much of a toaster as the 9i version.
But it worked great.

Hi Seema...
Dataguard was called Standby Database in 8i... In 8i, there was only one type of standby... It's basically the same as the "Maximum performance" version of a physical standby in 9i...
