Thanks everybody, the information has been great.
Don, I did read chapter 14 DBNEWID Utility and think that'll do just what we want.
nid is the executable, as Ruth pointed out.
Really appreciate everyone's contributions and hope this helps others.

It's an Oracle utility "DBNEWID." It's described in the Oracle 9i = Utility Manual and can be used to change the name and id of a database.
