http://www.tightvnc.org It's VNC, but with compression levels that can be set by the server and/or client. I use it to access my Windoze box here at work from my Gentoo desktop and while VPN'd into work from home. Even though it's not a server, my Windoze box has some tools on it that I'm comfortable with <insert GUI-bashing rant here>.

It's nice because I can turn off compression here at work where the desktops are all networked at 100Mb/FD. But from home on my lowly 768Kb/128Kb DSL, I can crank up the compression for transmission speed.

I use VNC on boxes like my desktop that I control. Other machines here use Terminal Server (aptly named) and Citrix's WinFrame/Metaframe/WhateverFrame, so I use those free clients where applicable.

Yes, I find it highly amusing that the Linux client for Windows Terminal Services (rdesktop) is in some ways easier to use than the Windows client.

Have not had need for TightVNC. How do you use it?
